Microdermabrasion is a technique to smooth away the raised, keratin plugs that are a feature of keratosis pilaris (kp).

How does it work?

The principle behind microdermabrasion is the use of a highly efficient exfoliating agent: AlO crystals.

AlO crystals are monodisperse, i.e. they are made of the same hard material, and the size of the crystals is extremely uniform.

How do you use Microdermabrasion crystals?

You can mix the crystals into your favourite lotion or liquid cleanser, to create your own microderm- abrasion therapy!

If using with a lotion:

Mix the crystals with the lotion until you achieve the desired consistency.

Apply a small amount of your microdermasion lotion to the fingers, and rub into the kp area for 5 - 10 seconds.  Wipe off with a tissue.  You may like to shower afterwards to remove the remaining crystals.

If using with a cleanser

Mix the crystals with the cleanser until you achieve the desired consistency.

Step 1. Use in the shower

Step 2. Apply a small amount of your microdermabrasion cleanser, about the size of a nickel (2 cm diameter) into the palm of the hand.

Step 3. Using the palm, rub your microdermabrasion cleanser onto the affected skin.  A back and forwards motion is best, because a circular motion may cause the skin's small hairs to curl!!

Step 4. Rinse off the remaining crystals with shower water

Effects of Microdermabrasion

AlO crystals are uniform, and hard, so they are a very efficient way to exfoliate the skin.  You may notice that the skin is slightly pink after use, however this fades within minutes.

Do I apply a cream or lotion afterwards?

It is not recommended that any strong products (i.e. AHA creams) be applied to the skin immediately after microdermabrasion, but a very mild moisturizer, or Koru kp Oleum is OK 

I want fast results...can I use it really often?

Some people think that if a little is good, then a lot is better...Please resist the temptation to overdo things..!  Just use microdermabrasion once a day, you will see results!

How long will the crystals last?

Microdermabrasion crystals are available in 1lb (454g) and 2lb (908g) jars.  Depending on the areas affected by kp, this will last you for many months!

Once the keratin plugs are removed, you will not need to use microdermabrasion as often, or at all!
